Kit SB-01 · Coming March
Struck-By and Work Zones Stand-Down Kit
Backing equipment, swing radius, falling objects, and traffic. Ready before National Work Zone Awareness Week in April.
Why it matters
Struck-by is one of construction’s Focus Four hazards, and it ramps up every spring as equipment and traffic get moving again.
What it covers
- Blind spots and backing. Eye contact and a signal before you approach; never walk behind backing equipment.
- Swing radius. Barricaded, and nobody between equipment and something solid.
- Spotters. Stay in the operator’s sight. Lose sight, stop.
- Falling objects. Toeboards, debris nets, tool lanyards at height, and barricades below overhead work.
- Flying objects. Eye and face protection for cutting, grinding, and nailing.
- Work zones. Traffic control set up per the plan, high-visibility clothing, and a buffer between workers and live traffic.
Hands-on activity
Blind-spot walk: park a piece of equipment, put the operator in the seat, and have the crew walk the perimeter until the operator loses sight of them. Mark each spot with a cone.
